“I shall build not upon the earth, but of it and in it, giving her the respect she so deserves.”

—CHRIS FIGGINS

Long before I found my calling in the wine industry, architecture had my full attention. I loved building things and during my junior year in college, while in pursuit of an architectural degree, I called my parents and told them I wanted to come back to Leonetti Cellar and the family business. My degree switched to horticulture and the rest is still history in the making. That love of building has never dissipated, and the winery at FIGGINS Estate allowed me the opportunity to marry cutting-edge design filled with modern lines and industrial detail with the technical infrastructure to make world class wines. The placement of the building not only provides minimal impact on the surrounding landscape and southern-facing slope of the vineyard, but the intimate tasting room is perched with breath-taking views estate’s grapevines and the Blue Mountain foothills beyond.

One of the most unique parts of the winery is the subterranean wine caves. Hewn into the hillside of 15-million-year old solid basalt at a maximum depth of 35 feet below the vineyard, the caves are another way we can honor the earth sustainably. They maintain a natural 55-58 degree temperature and 65% humidity, perfect for aging premium wines.
